expense report template word
It might seem like a simple step. Simply open a new document and begin typing, right? Nonetheless, it’s rare for that to work for me. I like to get a solid working title and a summary before I write too much. John’s written about this earlier, after he discovered he could speed up his writing process ~600% by producing a summary .
As I wrote an outline for a post this week I realised I had been repeating the same process for every single new article I work . Like any fantastic programmer, I realized repeating the same work over and above means that is probably a good opportunity for automation.
So I decided to make some templates for myself.
I started by creating a template for the most common Ghost blog post structure. Since that arrangement’s particular to mepersonally, I created a template based on how John constructions his articles, and another according to a writer whose work I respect.
For every template I’ve made a gist to show you exactly what they look like. They are only Markdown documents, so go right ahead and save them, rename them if you prefer, and copy-and-paste the contents into a new file whenever you are ready to write. Click the”view raw” link to the bottom of each list to observe the plain text version, which you can copy into a new file on your favorite writing app.
With this template, I can start by answering each dot line with a couple of notes about what I need to write in that section. From the time I am done, I’ll have a rough sketch of what the finished piece will look like. This should make it simpler to enlarge my notes to fully-formed paragraphs and make them flow to each other well, because I know the structure of the entire piece beforehand.
Using the template, I found that my outlining process became much more involved. I’d really planned to perform a full rough draft of the post in the early hours, but it took me a few hours simply to have the outline done, so that I set the draft off for another day.
On the other hand, I’d over 1600 words composed in my outline, along with a solid idea of what each section would comprise and how they’d work together to create a feeling of flow in the article. Even though outlining took more than usual, drafting took time because I had set myself up for victory. Writing the draft was just a matter of taking each chunk of notes from the outline and filling it out into a readable paragraph or two.
It was quite a different procedure to how I normally work, and I was tempted a couple of times to prevent the extra research or thinking required to complete the outline correctly. I frequently put off these things until I’m drafting, which is when I must be centered on writing instead. I adhered to it, though, and from the time I got around to writing the draft I was glad I’d had.
I’ve actually coined my outline and research process by using this template. It’s a more productive part of the procedure now and makes printing easier. Hopefully it’ll lead to better work, also.
