ms word 2007 resume template
It may seem like a simple step. Just open a new file and start typing, right? Nonetheless, it’s rare for this to work for me. I like to have a solid working name and an outline before I write a lot of. John’s written about this before, after he found he could speed up his writing procedure ~600% by creating an outline .
As I wrote an outline for a post this week I realized I was repeating the exact same process for every new article I work . Like any good programmer, I realized repeating the same work over and over means that is probably a fantastic chance for automation.
So I decided to make some templates for myself.
I started by creating a template for the most common Ghost blog post structure. Since that structure’s particular to mepersonally, I created a template based on how John structures his articles, and another according to a writer whose work I admire.
For every template I’ve made a gist to show you what they look like. They’re only Markdown files, so go ahead and save them, rename them if you like, and copy-and-paste the contents into a new file whenever you are ready to compose. Click the”view raw” link to the bottom of each list to observe the plain text version, which you can copy to a new file in your favourite writing app.
With this template, I can begin by answering each dot point using a couple of notes about what I need to write in that section. By the time I am done, I’ll have a rough sketch of what the finished piece will look like. This should make it simpler to expand my notes to fully-formed paragraphs and make them flow into each other well, since I understand the arrangement of the entire piece beforehand.
Using the template, I found that my summarizing procedure became much more involved. I’d actually planned to perform a complete rough draft of that post in the early hours, but it took me a few hours simply to get the outline done, so I set off the draft for another day.
On the other hand, I’d over 1600 words composed in my outline, and a solid idea of what each segment would contain and how they’d work together to create a feeling of flow in the post. Though outlining took more than normal, drafting took time since I had set myself up for victory. Writing the draft was only a matter of taking each chunk of notes out of the outline and filling out it into a readable paragraph or two.
It was quite a different procedure to the way I normally do the job, and I was tempted a few times to avoid the extra research or thinking required to complete the outline correctly. I frequently put these things off until I am drafting, which is when I must be focused on writing instead. I stuck to it, though, and from the time I got around to writing the draft I was grateful I’d had.
I have actually coined my outline and research procedure by using this template. It’s a more effective part of the process now, and makes drafting easier. Hopefully it’ll lead to better function, too.
